The shock pad improves the playing characteristics of artificial turf. It is used, for example, for football or multi-sport pitches and for playgrounds. Together with a high-quality base layer, it helps improve the playing parameters of sports turf systems.
According to the installation method, shock pads are divided into:
- pads created directly on the field surface (cast “in-situ” pads) using a finisher
- pads made from panels or rolls that are delivered to the site and then installed
The cast pad is made from a mixture of rubber granulate and polyurethane binder. Its thickness depends on the selected surface system. For thicker pads, a proportion of fine crushed aggregate is added to the mixture. This elastic layer forms an optional part of the base structure, improving surface elasticity and preventing the sand and rubber infill in artificial turf from hardening.
Panel and roll pads provide not only cushioning but also drainage, ensuring proper water drainage of artificial turf installed on impermeable or non-porous base layers. Pads are available in several thicknesses depending on the required level of shock absorption.
